Trading Up Treats

October 31, 2008

Happy Halloween everyone!

For some in the metro Milwaukee area, trick or treat is over. For some, the fun begins tonight! (visit here for a complete list of 2008 trick or treat hours.)

We did trick or treat last weekend. Not only did my little race car driver come home with a jack-o-latern of sugary treats, I have a big bowl of candy left over. Better to have too much candy than to run out I always say!

The question is- what to do with all of this candy once the fun of Halloween is over? What we have is WAY more than my family needs. (That goes for the parents of the household too. I don't need any more candy bars. If they are around, I will eat them. No question.)

What about trading up?

Some families choose a night to summon The Candy Witch (or the Halloween Fairy) to pick up all the leftover Halloween candy from the house and leave something fun, more permanent and less likely to cause a spike in blood sugar. It could be Leggos, a puzzle or in my house- matchbox cars.

What do you do with your Halloween candy? Eat it until it's gone? Hide it? Toss it? Trade it? Leave your ideas in the comments!

Hey, I have a race car driver too! We eat ours but we drag it out over months. I hide the bags and bring out a few pieces a day. Actually, the biggest candy freak around here is my husband. I have to find a hiding place that HE can't find.
