Savvy Books, Toys & More

November 24, 2008

Just in time for the holidays!

Maybe you are looking for that perfect present. Look no further!
Did you notice that Savvy has a treasure trove of book and toy reviews on the Savvy Books, Toys & More pages?  You can take advantage of the user-generated reviews and other community-based feedback on the hundreds of books, toys and more reviewed in those pages or leave your own comments, if there is something you'd recommend (or not.) I love to give books for birthday and holiday gifts so I spent some time this weekend browsing the book reviews, leaving some of my own reviews on the pages as well.
Here's what I had to say about a handful of the books listed here on the Savvy site:

Edwina the Dinosaur
by Mo Willems

For ages 2+ years

Edwina is the sweetest dinasour you'll find in a story and we love to say Reginald von HOOBIE DOOBIE. It's a story of an unlikely friendship but one your family will really enjoy. We received this as a gift and I recommend it wherever possible.

Cars Trucks and Things That Go
by Richard Scarry

For ages 2-6 years

I think it's pretty clear that Richard Scarry's animations tell a story all their own. In fact, we tell our own stories almost every time we read it. There is SO MUCH going on and we find our son will ask questions about what characters might be feeling or saying. This is one of the more imagination-sparking stories we've had the pleasure to read.
Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me
by Eric Carle

For ages 2-6 years
I bought this book for my husband and baby boy. At first I picked it up because it's kind of hard to find books that reference "Papa" (what we call my husband) instead of "Dad", but I didn't know it would be such a sweet story. We love this book.

Curious George Makes Pancakes
by H. A. Rey

For ages 3-6 years

We've read many a Curious George book but we come back to this one on a regular basis. The Curious George books are always a great opportunity to point out how easy it can be to get into trouble or about doing the right thing. Plus, even my picky eater loves pancakes!

I Am A Bunny
by Ole Risom

For ages 2-6 years

This is one of my favorite books to read just as my little one is drifting off to sleep. It's very relaxing to look at the pictures and talk about the seasons. It's also a quick read- just long enough to send your little one to dreamland.
