Things You Must Do with a Child in Your City Before They Grow Up

October 24, 2008

Is it just me? Am I the only one who had a list of things I wanted to do with my kids this summer only to wake up and wow- it's fall and I only accomplished a handful of them? It's so clich, but in the blink of an eye, my baby is not a baby anymore.

In the back of my mind I always have a running itinerary of things I places I want to visit or things I want to do with my kids before they get too big so they have great memories of growing up here.

Here's my take on things we just have to do:

1. Sunday Monday HAPPY DAYS. We need to go sample some custard at Leon's custard. Said to be the place that sparked the hit t.v. show Happy Days, it's straight out of 1950 and a bonifide  original. You won't find another like it anywhere.

2. Hike up to Holy Hill. At the height of fall when the trees have peaked it's the most gorgeous site and something I remember fondly from my childhood. Plus it's great exercise.

3. Spend an afternoon at Bradford Beach. Sadly the Lake water is not always given the all clear to swim in, but what I really want is to hang out on some beach blankets drinking lemonade and racing in the sand and collecting rocks under a hot sun.

4. Attend a Brewer Game. Miller Park is not the cheapest option but it is a family friendly place, they even have designated family only sections. I like to watch sports on television as much as the next person but it is so much fun to watch a sausage race in person.

5. Have pizza and root beer at the Organ Piper Music Palace. Where else can you hear your favorite songs played on a magnificent pipe organ? While you eat pizza!? If that's not enough the lights, swinging displays, toys, bears and monkeys on display will make for a meal you won't forget.
